It was mid-June and the Rockies had just climbed out of eight-game hole to pull into second place in the NL West thanks to a .682 winning percentage...

DENVER – Entering this weekend’s four-game series with the NL Central-worst Pirates, the NL West-worst Rockies were holding steady at 13th place in the National League. Saturday night’s loss, the third-straight at the hands of Pittsburgh and fifth-straight overall, moves Colorado back in the standings to 14th place or, as it’s more appropriate to call it, 2nd-worst in the league....

DENVER – Las Cucarachas don’t die easily. If you were one of the 38,181 at Coors Field who witnessed any of Colorado’s three comebacks on Sunday, you know the cockroaches usually have the last laugh. The 7-6 win wasn’t how the Rockies would have drawn it up, but Garrett Hampson’s walk-off single in the tenth inning punctuated Colorado’s fourth-straight victory and secured...

DENVER – On Thursday July 25, Troy Tulowitzki officially announced his retirement from baseball after 13 years in the majors with Colorado, Toronto and New York. “For me to decide it was time, I talked to people I was close to about my decision and everyone seemed to agree. I gave it everything I got and my body was kind...

WASHINGTON, D.C. – In what was originally a matchup of two starting pitchers known as TBD, the Rockies selected young Jeff Hoffman to make his seventh start of the season while the Nationals activated seven-time All-Star and two-time Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer for Thursday’s fourth and final game of the series. To say Colorado would have been pleased...

DENVER – If you’ve watched enough Rockies games this season, the odds suggest you’ve seen a player or two reach into their back pocket and pull out a note card. Simply put, the laminated cards pertain to defensive alignments for each batter in the opposing lineup. And though these placements are based upon results of countless at-bats culled together by...

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies have never come into a season with the kind of expectations they – and just about everyone else – placed on themselves coming into the 2019 season. This is one of the many reasons why an eight-game losing streak, more or less out of the gate, became so magnified outside the clubhouse. Inside of it,...

DENVER – Charlie Blackmon waited until his 82nd at bat of the season to hit his first home run of the season and his timing couldn’t have been any better. Down 3-2 in the 12th inning with two outs and two strikes, the man known as Chuck Nasty added his second walk-off home run to his already impressive resumé on...

The Colorado Rockies have, at least for the moment, rediscovered themselves. Getting their third straight phenomenal starting pitching performance, this time by Jon Gray, they got the offense they needed from their star and a couple of young players looking more and more comfortable getting regular playing time to cruise to a 8-2 win over the San Diego Padres. It’s...

With a losing streak that reached eight games Saturday – and twelve-of-thirteen – the relative highlights for the Colorado are few and far between at this point. Unable to score in the first inning once again, playing a majority of the game from behind, an adequate performance from starting pitcher Kyle Freeland was far from enough as the offense continued to struggled in innings two-through-nine. Freeland let the leadoff hitter reach base in his first four innings of work, but he’d get an inning-ending double play in the first and work around two base runners in the second and fourth inning. Freeland did not escape harm in the third when back-to-back singles were followed up by a Yangervis Solarte sacrifice…

The Colorado Rockies extended their losing streak to seven games but it took the San Francisco Giants 18 innings to put them away in a marathon gut-punch loss. Of course, the game ended on a tormenting play when Chris Iannetta should have been able to make a force out at home (and maybe even a double play to send it...

Just when it seemed the presence of Mr. Barrels would be missing on the 2019 Colorado Rockies, an unforseen injury has brought him back with his brothers. After a delayed start to 2018 that limited Daniel Murphy to 91 games because of knee surgery, the first baseman will now deal with his first stint on the Injured List with Colorado...

Before the Rockies got a chance to really display their new $24MM purchase, an unfortunate injury will force them put him back in the display case for another day joining reliever Chris Rusin and starting pitcher Antonio Senzatela. Signed in large part because of his postseason resume and swing that plays perfectly for the confines of Coors Field, Daniel Murphy will be placed on the newly named Injured List with a fractured left index finger. Opening a starting position at first base, in addition to a spot batting second, Bud Black has numerous options for filling this void. Thanks to a glut of depth on the bench as well as the 40-man roster, Colorado shouldn’t skip too much of a…

Speaking about the finer points of his game and certain details that might have gone unnoticed over his last couple of tuneups, Hampson noted himself and Ryan McMahon as part of why he believes the team can compete for...

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz – The Colorado Rockies have become famous, or perhaps a bit infamous depending on your disposition, for a slow and steady approach when it comes to the wheeling and dealing side of the business. It’s ironic that General Manager Jeff Bridich has made fewer trades than any other GM in MLB since taking over the job with the...

Scottsdale – A message was sent loud and clear the day the New York Yankees signed DJ LeMahieu without any resistance from the Colorado Rockies; It’s time for a new era in Denver at second base. The writing had been on the wall for some time, arguably reaching all the way back to when the club inked Charlie Blackmon to...
