The American Raptors’ first loss of their Uruguay occurred in their final match of the two-and-a-half-week trip. The tour started with a 31-5 win in a scrimmage over Los Cuervos to prepare for two matches against Uruguay A. The Raptors picked up a convincing 68-27 victory over the Uruguay Rugby Union developmental side at the Carrasco Polo Club on November 14, using 10 team tries to run away with the match in the second half. Uruguay A avenged their loss from five days earlier by handing the Raptors their only loss of the tour on Friday evening. Major League Rugby returned to action for the first time in 373 days on Saturday, and it looked a lot different than the last time we all saw it. A lot has happened in the last year. The Colorado Raptors’ decision to withdraw from the competition last April was an indication that the already wild offseason was only going to get wilder. MLR expected two more teams – the Dallas Jackals and the Los Angeles Giltinis – to join for the 2021 season, and held their first-ever collegiate draft. The Dallas Jackals announced in a release on Tuesday that they would not compete in the 2021 Major League Rugby season with the intention to resume play in 2022. According to the release, the decision was made in coordination with Major League Rugby and, “is based on a number of factors that will provide the Dallas Jackals, an expansion team, the best opportunity to succeed in its inaugural season and into the future.” The Jackals – along with the Los Angeles Giltinis – were one of the two expansion teams set to join the competition in 2021. When the Colorado Raptors announced their intention to withdraw from Major League Rugby back on April 9, it left people with several different questions. Several of those questions remain unanswered some three months later, but one thing that we continue to learn about is where the players that made up the 2020 version of the Raptors will be playing their rugby in 2021.
