On August 17th, the Avs announced that 23-year-old forward Shane Bowers has re-signed a 1-year, 2-way contract for the 2023 season. It comes with little surprise after Colorado extended the former first round pick a qualifying offer in July. https://twitter.com/Avalanche/status/1560093517220909056 He was the last of the remaining RFA’s to accept his offer after Mikhail Maltsev re-signed on July 27th to…...
On November 5th, 2017, Matt Duchene was pulled mid-game in what would become a three-way trade wherein the Avalanche acquired Shane Bowers’ rights. Other notable acquisitions in this trade included: Bo Byram, Sam Girard, and Justus Annunen. Colorado continues to cash in on the dividends of this moment four years later in prospects whose value is still to be determined.…...
A four-assist night from Alex Newhook helped the Avs rookies to their first win of the rookie tournament in a game that took overtime despite a dominant performance from the Avs’ best players. https://youtu.be/zG96zvuqhe8
At this weekend’s Rookie Showcase/Faceoff/Tournament (whatever you want to call it as it seems everyone has their own name for it), the Colorado Avalanche has an impressive five first-round picks in attendance. Two of them, Bowen Byram and Alex Newhook, are as close to NHL roster locks as you can get while playing for a team that has serious hopes…...
The top half of the Avs prospect pyramid may be the most crowded it’s ever been. With many graduations on the horizon now is the time to jump on the pyramid bandwagon. https://youtu.be/ir_ugg2AuBA
Training camps open up across the NHL tomorrow morning and with that, the Avs released their full roster of participants. The 34-player roster has some interesting names included that will lead to an interesting two weeks of battling for spots in the pecking order when injuries inevitably hit during the postseason. The Avs are slated to leave for the “bubble”…...
In what was a season full of fun Avalanche stories, the halting of the NHL season stole what might have been a memorable playoff run and overshadowed an important story that emerged during the second rash of ridiculous injuries for the Avalanche. That story was Martin Kaut. When the charismatic 19-year-old was called up, it was meaningful for several reasons.…...
The majority of leagues both junior and pro end long before the NHL does. That means this time of year is when the best carry their teams to the promised land and the Avs have more than a few prospects doing just that. Pro Standouts: Martin Kaut – RW (Colorado Avalanche) round 1, pick 16, 2018 Games Played Goals Assists…...

It boggles my mind how quickly this season has gone by. Pro Standouts: Shane Bowers – C (Colorado Eagles) Matt Duchene trade piece Games Played Goals Assists Points PIM…...

LOVELAND, CO. – Conveniently nestled adjacent to Interstate 25, in an arena named after a popular canned beverage, is a notable hockey organization with banners raised to the rafters in acknowledgment of seasonal greatness. Opening night for the 2019-20 season was electric as thousands of fans, donning jerseys emblazoned with Colorado’s vibrant logo on the front and players’ names on…...
On most days, Avs head coach Jared Bednar is very calm, and at least to the public, won’t praise a player too much. On Sunday night, Bednar didn’t hold back. Shane Bowers has made quite the impression on him. “I thought he was excellent both nights. Excellent.” And that was just the beginning. “Bigger, stronger, faster than he was last…...
Breaking their goose egg this preseason, the Colorado Avalanche were able to get on the board, coming out ahead of the Minnesota Wild by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. How did each player perform? Let’s find out… Dan Renouf – B-: I’m not sure Renouf has much of a shot at making the team, but he’s making an impression…...

Nathan Rudolph selects the best three Avs from game three of preseason and breaks down the play of the game. https://youtu.be/K30VjX0PnIo
It hasn’t quite been the preseason the Avalanche were hoping for in terms of results as they lost their third straight to open their preseason schedule. A 4-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild today in Minneapolis was another of those classic battles between roster disparity as the home team iced a mostly-NHL lineup and the Avalanche sent a mixture of…...
After two days of mostly systems installation work, the Avalanche got into some real competitive situations today with small-team scrimmages. The two sessions ran as normal so the scrimmages weren’t too deep with each team only having a couple defensive pairings and lines each but it provided some of the younger guys real opportunities to shine against NHL competition.…...
The Avalanche fell to the Coyotes 2 – 0 to end the Rookie Tournament without a goal in the final game, but a solid showing from goaltender Adam Werner. https://youtu.be/2BfDXQGCBi4...
IRVINE, Calif. – When the Avalanche were given the distinction of having the second-best farm system in the NHL according to Corey Pronman of The Athletic, it was largely due to the presence of high-end talent. Because they haven’t graduated any top prospects in a few years, there’s now a nice collection of top young players converging at the top…...
