Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – C+ Simply put, the problem with Bellemare this series was that he was asked to do too much. As a fourth line center, he is fine. The struggle of Compher’s line this series forced him into the role of third line center, as he played more than JTC at even strength. He scored the big goal to…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – B Really solid game from Bellemare, and that line really went to work down low in the third period, killing the puck on the cycle and not giving the Stars any chance to break out. As bad as the Avs were in face-offs in the first, guys like Bellemare turned it around to even it up in…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – A Heck of a game from Bellemare, who got the party started early in the first period and the Avs never looked back. Great play by him to one-time that across his body, and not let Bishop get set coming across. He was buzzing all night long. Andre Burakovsky – A That’s one way to stick around…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – D Bellemare’s line was fine at even strength in terms of numbers. His penalty kill work, however, was less than ideal, as he was out there for all three of Dallas’ power play goals. He even managed to toss in a penalty of his own. Andre Burakovsky – D Burky picked up a couple of assists on…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – B- The Avs PK had some high-effort shifts, led in part by Bellemare with some key face-off wins and some diving clears to get the puck out and get a line change. Andre Burakovsky – A I loved everything about Burakovsky’s game. He was moving his feet, carrying the puck with confidence, and most importantly, letting the…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – C- The fourth line was okay. They looked better with Nichushkin on it than it did with Namestnikov. Bellemare, unfortunately, lost the face-off right before the Pavelski power-play goal that changed the game. Andre Burakovsky – F Burakovsky is a shooter who had the most inopportune times refuses to shoot the puck. His pass to Compher in…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – D The fourth line was missing a big part of it today, and it showed. They failed to grind out anything offensively and Bellemare looked a little slow. As you’ll see with these grades, he certainly wasn’t alone… Andre Burakovsky – F Sloppy all over the place. The second line was a negative pretty much all evening,…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – A As far as back to back games from Bellemare, I don’ know if it gets any better. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – A The fourth line was incredible. Consistent offensive zone time, and grinding away every shift. Bellemare, through two periods, wasn’t even on the ice for a shot attempt against at even strength. Just a great performance from him, including a backdoor setup to Graves in the first that hit iron. Andre Burakovsky – B- Burakovsky’s ice time…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – C+ Overall, that line did really well in terms of possession, but definitely had some sloppy moments, like the rest of the team. Bellemare had a late icing that nearly hurt the team, but for the most part, the fourth line did what they need to do in keeping the other team out of the Avs end.…...

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – B The fourth line was quite strong tonight, and Bellemare ended up being the guy that drew the power play that Kadri scored on. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – D+ I think we can stop calling this the fourth line because Bednar is using it as the third line at the moment. I was not a huge fan of their game overall, though. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – B+ The fourth line that was hyped up through camp was put together again tonight, with Nieto coming back in, and it did not disappoint. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare – B- The fourth line had a terrific start to the game but tailed off a bit after that. I did not really agree with the penalty call on him late in the game, but the bigger concern is the shot block that hit his hand and seemed to cause him some issues. That’ll be something to watch…...

After over four months away from the game due to the COVID-19 pandemic, you had to know the players were eager to get into a game situation after a few days of practice. On Thursday, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar and his staff gave all the players that opportunity, separating the 30 players between two teams and letting them go…...

The Avalanche did not target Pierre-Édouard Bellemare to come in and be an offensive juggernaut. They signed him to help the penalty kill, anchor the fourth line, and to bring leadership to the locker room. The offense was a nice bonus, though. The 35-year-old center from France was having his best season in the NHL before the league shut down,…...

When the Avs traded for Andre Burakovsky in June of 2019, they were taking a bit of a gamble. The talented youngster was making good money coming off a season where he fell out of favor in Washington, and the Avs did give up some good value to get him, sending second and third round picks to acquire the then 24 year old winger.

Turns out, they knew what they were doing.

Perhaps this is controversial, or perhaps it isn't, but let it be known: as of right now, Samuel Girard is the Avs #1 defenseman.

Still just 21 years old, Girard led the Avs in average time on ice at 21:19 a game, but where the staff trusted him more than any other player on the team is at even strength, where he averaged over a full minute more than the next closest player (Erik Johnson). While Jared Bednar and Nolan Pratt won't hesitate to put Girard on the ice with Cale Makar for offensive zone face-offs, they pretty consistently use him in defensive matchups against the other teams best players.

There is no player on the Avs more frustrating to both fans and the coaching staff than Nikita Zadorov. Some nights, he looks like he can be a top-pairing defenseman capable of shutting down elite players in the NHL. Other nights, you wonder if the organization really doesn’t have six other defensemen they could be playing over him. The other…...
