Jim Mora and Colorado State went viral on Saturday night when defensive coordinator Tyson Summers was replaced mid-game before subsequently leaving the field and ultimately losing his spot on the coaching staff.
We’ve already reacted to the crazy storyline in the moment and dove into everything Mora said about the situation postgame.
Here are the other takeaways from an ugly Homecoming performance by CSU.
Defense is a mess
CSU has given up 50+ points in back-to-back games for the first time in nearly 45 years. Even scarier than the points allowed, though, is how effortlessly the opposition moves the ball against the Rams.
Oregon State produced 653 yards in Saturday’s 56-26 Homecoming beatdown. UTSA produced 542 yards the week before. And on the season, CSU is now giving up 494 yards per contest.
Out of 138 FBS teams, CSU currently ranks 137th in total defense, 134th in rushing defense, 132nd in scoring defense, 129th in opponent third-down conversion percentage and 103rd in team tackles for a loss.
I’m not going to try and come up with a cute metaphor or bring levity to the situation with a joke. This is the worst the Rams have looked defensively in the 25 years that I’ve followed this program. One can only hope that Kenny McClendon can salvage things with an assist from Mora.
