Jim Mora has seen enough.
After yet another disastrous defensive start by Colorado State on Saturday night, Mora appeared to make the bold decision to replace his defensive play caller mid-game. After beginning the night on the sidelines, Tyson Summers was seemingly sent off and replaced before the first quarter even ended. And after being elevated to co-defensive coordinator back in the spring, Kenny McClendon jumped in as the new defensive play caller against the Beavers in CSU’s inaugural Pac-12 matchup of the 2026 season.
While no official confirmation was given by CSU during the game, the TV broadcast did confirm McClendon was the man calling plays now. Plus, after leaving the sidelines, Summers was not seen again — neither on the field, nor with the coaches who returned to the post ahead of the third quarter.
After at one point being tied at 14 points apiece early on, Oregon State went on to extend its lead to three touchdowns by halftime (35-14). Coming off the heels of an atrocious defensive performance against UTSA, the Rams allowed nearly 400 more first-half yards and five touchdowns over the first 30 minutes in this one. Very quickly it turned into a ‘surrender cobra’ scenario for the proud fans in the stands, who to their credit, did a stellar job filling Canvas Stadium for another record-setting crowd.
