ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — When building their 53-man roster, Sean Payton, George Paton and the Denver Broncos made their toughest roster cut last.
“There’s not an easy cut,” George Paton told the media shortly after roster cutdown, when asked what the toughest cut was. “Jaleel McLaughlin. But there are others. This was a hard one. We were up late. We’ve been at it since after the first preseason game. We knew this was coming, but they’re all hard.”
With J.K. Dobbins, RJ Harvey and Jonah Coleman locks to make the Broncos’ roster, there was one spot left in the running back room with three players vying for it. In the end, Tyler Badie got the final spot over McLaughlin and Cody Schrader.
On Monday, after McLaughlin did not sign to the team’s practice squad, the head coach explained why the Broncos made the decision they did.
