Carlos Henderson’s road to a roster spot just took another turn.
The Broncos announced that Henderson and fellow wide receiver Jimmy Williams will start training camp on the Reserve/Did Not Report list, Wednesday afternoon. The move opens two spots on Denver’s 90-man roster, one of which is expected filled by former Central Michigan receiver Mark Chapman.
9News reported this morning that Henderson has personal matters to attend to, forcing him to miss at least the start of training camp. He was already facing an uphill battle to make the team after a slow start to his NFL career.
Henderson, who was drafted in the third round in 2017, didn’t see the field during his rookie season, following a training camp injury to his thumb that forced him to spend the year on injured reserve. This offseason, Henderson was cited for marijuana possession in his home state of Louisiana.
With virtually no on-the-field NFL experience to speak of and a run-in with the police, the 23-year-old needs a strong camp performance to win a roster spot.
According to The Denver Post, Williams is “contemplating his football future.” He is a 23-year-old undrafted wide receiver out of East Carolina University.
Chapman, who is expected to sign with Denver, was drafted by first overall in the Candian Football League draft this spring, but never agreed to a contract. He attended mini-camp with the Giants but left New York without a spot on the 90-man roster.
Chapman was Central Michigan’s leading receiver last year with 59 receptions for 875 yards and five touchdowns. He also served as the Chippewas’ punt returner.
