The seventh-best Colorado Raptors match of all time comes from their May 4, 2019 match against the Utah Warriors and is arguably the most complete match the Raptors have played since Major League Rugby began in 2018. This match took place a week after the Raptors defeated Rugby United New York 20-16 in thrilling fashion. It also served as the start of the last quarter of the season for the Raptors. With just four matches to play, the Raptors were going to have to have a near-flawless final quarter of regular season play if they wanted to sneak into the playoffs. In a match that they desperately needed to win to keep their playoff chances alive, the Raptors attack exploded…

Toronto Arrows 19 – 22 Colorado Raptors The Colorado Raptors used two big defensive stands, timely tries from John Ryberg and Mika Kruse, and 12 points off the boot of Robbie Petzer to hand the Toronto Arrows their first loss of the season. The Arrows proved why they are the top-ranked team in the East in the loss, though. While the Raptors left points off the board throughout the game, the Arrows hung in there from start to finish. With two wins in two weeks over quality opponents, the Raptors are quietly climbing up the table. They’ll have another tough test against Old Glory D.C., who sits in second place in the East, in Round 6. After five weeks on…

Afterwards, he sits down for a conversation with flanker Connor Cook about his dog, his rugby career and the upcoming match against the Toronto Arrows. Cook is in his fourth year with the Raptors. In the 22-14 victory over the Warriors, Cook totaled 15 tackles and 40 ruck arrivals while also adding six carries for 21 meters on offense. San Diego Legion 25 – 21 NOLA GOLD The first-place San Diego Legion just keep winning. This time they went down to the Big Easy and beat a very solid NOLA Gold team that gave them fits throughout the match. San Diego remains the top dog until someone knocks them off, and no one has yet to do that. The only real sign of slowing down they’ve shown through the first month of the season has been that they left a bonus point on the table in their victory over the Gold. The Legion will look to add to their win streak in Round 5 when they welcome Rugby United New York to Torero Stadium on Sunday while the NOLA…

It took a few weeks, but the Colorado Raptors found their way into the win column for the first time on Saturday afternoon with a 22-14 victory over the Utah Warriors. They say that the first win of the season is always the hardest to obtain, that was apparent when the final whistle echoed throughout Infinity Park. The Raptors (1-3, (1-2 WC)) couldn’t wipe the grins off their faces. “Ah it’s unbelievable,” captain Luke White said after the match. “We thought it was coming last week and we had to hold out one more week. We obviously knew it was coming. It’s a bit disappointing because we could’ve held them to zero there, but they got in two late tries.…

The Colorado Raptors have not kicked off the 2020 Major League Rugby season the way they would’ve liked. From afar, the optics aren’t great. As they head into their Round 4 matchup against the Utah Warriors, the Raptors sit at 0-3 (0-2 WC) and 12th place in the table. That’s not where the Raptors want to be, but it has been apparent as the season has progressed that Colorado is heading in the right direction on the pitch. The flashes have been there, and if this is the week they are able to put it all together, the Raptors could make up some serious ground in the standings with the Warriors (1-1-1, 0-0-1 WC) coming to town. As their record…

NOLA Gold 27 – 20 Colorado Raptors The Colorado Raptors’ slow start to the 2020 season continued with their 27-20 loss to the NOLA Gold on Saturday afternoon. The loss is the third in as many weeks, and while that doesn’t look good on paper, the Raptors are getting closer to where they need to be to compete. Hopefully, for their sake, their slow start won’t come back to haunt them come the end of the season. The Gold, on the other hand, have put themselves in third place in a loaded Eastern Conference through three weeks. The Raptors will look to get back on track this weekend when the Utah Warriors come to town while the Gold will get…

The Colorado Raptors are getting closer, but they aren’t quite there yet. Saturday night’s 27-20 loss to the NOLA Gold was proof of that. It was the Raptors’ best match of the season, and they fell just short. Propelled by a hot start and herculean effort from fullback Carl Heinrich Meyer, the Gold (2-1, 1-1) took advantage of a few more opportunities than the Raptors (0-3, 0-2) and that was ultimately the difference in Saturday’s match. Opposing teams haven’t had much trouble scoring on Colorado right out of the gates through the first two matches of the season, and Saturday afternoon wasn’t any different. Another slow start left the Raptors down 14-0 at the 10-minute mark after the Gold used…

The Roundup will be a weekly piece highlighting the action from around Major League Rugby. Utah Warriors 39 – 33 New England Free Jacks The Warriors picked up their first win of the 2020 season on Saturday afternoon when they knocked off an injury-riddled Free Jacks team at Sam Boyd Stadium. This was one of the better matches of the young season. The Warriors used several explosive tries to pull off the upset and carry some momentum into their match against the Austin Gilgronis. The Free Jacks will look to bounce back against arguably the best team in Major League Rugby through two matches when they head west to take on the San Diego Legion. Rugby United New York 49…

After dropping their first match of the 2020 season 21-12 to the Houston SaberCats, the Colorado Raptors are looking to get back on track this weekend against the San Diego Legion. Picking up a win in Round 2 will be anything but easy for the Raptors as they head to Las Vegas to take on a Legion team that dethroned the reigning champion Seattle Seawolves and sit atop the Western Conference after Round 1. Like the SaberCats, the Legion are another team that the Raptors have some history against as they are also one of the seven original Major League Rugby teams from the inaugural season. Sunday’s meeting between the two clubs will serve as the fifth of the regular…

The Roundup will be a weekly piece highlighting the action from around Major League Rugby. Colorado Raptors 12 – 21 Houston SaberCats The Colorado Raptors couldn’t overcome a slow start, issues in the scrum, and handling errors as they fell to the Houston SaberCats in the season opener. They’ll have to correct those issues in a hurry as they’ll face a San Diego Legion team that looked scary in their season-opening victory over the Seattle Seawolves. Old Glory D.C. 13 – 46 NOLA Gold Old Glory D.C. was the only expansion team to lose this weekend. The 46 points that the NOLA Gold scored this weekend were the most of any team. NOLA started 2019 strong before a disastrous stretch…
