The Avs get an elite performance out of Sam Girard and Josh Manson on their second pairing to escape OT with a W in Game 1 against the Blues. With dominant 5-on-5 play across the board, the Avs should feel confident going deeper into the series. https://youtu.be/cq_ym2Nbf3E
It was a big news day for the Colorado Avalanche as they got back on the ice after a disappointing three-game road trip that saw them go 1-2. The most surprising news of the day was Gabe Landeskog’s decision to have knee surgery and will be out indefinitely, though that just means there is currently no clear timeline for a…...
As the Colorado Avalanche continue to make history with their home winning streak it’s starting to feel like the team has that special something surrounding them this year. https://youtu.be/1SrQ6WiNvaA
The Avs rhythm of letting teams hang around but finding a way to get the job done continues, with Val Nichushkin stepping up for the Avs on the offensive side of the puck. https://youtu.be/QycTynQ2lxY
In what will almost certainly be the least interesting game of the season the Avs found yet another way to win a hockey game. With very little to talk about this is the shortest review of the year. https://youtu.be/smIaxsOhn6c
A glitch in the matrix perhaps? Two 7 – 3 games with fairly similar storylines one after the other leads the Avs to feel quite good about themselves but Rudo may be stuck on repeat. https://youtu.be/jbl4pTYdVdw
Extenuating circumstances in goal led to a full disaster game for the Avalanche. The Avs goaltending and defense likely played what will be their worst game of the season on the big Toronto stage. https://youtu.be/UHM7LvSniII
The Avs make it two in a row as they handle the San Jose Sharks off the back of elite performances from Sam Girard and Nazem Kadri. While there is still plenty left to prove for the Avs the step in the right direction is now obvious. https://youtu.be/fD9NN3bt1n0
The Avs finally played to the best of their ability…without Nathan MacKinnon. An easy victory is exactly what doctor dubs ordered but this needs to be the start of something more for Colorado. https://youtu.be/F6ptlaOk0PY
The Avs season begins tomorrow, and while the defense won’t be at full power for opening night, the defense that has been built is hard to argue with. One final beast of a preview before it’s back into the fray. https://youtu.be/oIHTcheLo9A
The Avs get off their losing streak but at what cost? With the playoffs around the corner, the Avs defense has been thrown into even more turmoil as the health of Sam Girard and Ryan Graves are in question. https://youtu.be/sH1b205aQ04
The Avs were a victim of big mistakes and poor goaltending in a game that leaves them with an uphill battle for first place in the West. With players returning on the horizon it’s hard to put much stock in this loss. https://youtu.be/0ETxG4XHDGQ
Something a little bit different since that game wasn’t really worth talking about. The Avs top five producers are truly something to behold. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmAsI0E8jqo
The Colorado Avalanche point streak can’t be stopped by heading out on the road as they take down the Minnesota Wild finding yet another new style of win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gma8BdIKbeY
After their 19th game and still sitting in a playoff spot, it would seem an odd time to push the panic button for the Colorado Avalanche. Just four points behind first-place Vegas, the Avs have started well enough to feel like they’ve weathered the early-season storms that have come their way, from another rash of injuries to a COVID shutdown…...
The Avs special teams continue to fire on all cylinders as they take down the LA Kings on two Power Play goals. The second unit, in particular, is showing some chemistry on the blue line. https://youtu.be/8ZfeooZ4_e0
The Avs are sporting what could be considered the best defense in Avalanche history coming into this season. With talent that was regularly seen on the top pair just a few short years ago, the depth of the defense is work diving into. https://youtu.be/qte_yb6FCiM
The Avs may have taken the L but if that’s the Nathan MacKinnon this series is gonna get, Avs fans have nothing to be worried about. https://youtu.be/g-gFwhcy_P0
Perhaps this is controversial, or perhaps it isn't, but let it be known: as of right now, Samuel Girard is the Avs #1 defenseman.
Still just 21 years old, Girard led the Avs in average time on ice at 21:19 a game, but where the staff trusted him more than any other player on the team is at even strength, where he averaged over a full minute more than the next closest player (Erik Johnson). While Jared Bednar and Nolan Pratt won't hesitate to put Girard on the ice with Cale Makar for offensive zone face-offs, they pretty consistently use him in defensive matchups against the other teams best players.
