Well, it didn't start pretty but the Buffs collected themselves and remain unbeaten as they move on to 2-0.

It's hard to believe that Colorado was able to rebound from a 22-9 early deficit to beat the Wildcats by 18 points, but the Buffaloes' slow start was not a sign of things to come. They ended up shooting the ball better from the floor than their previous game and achieved coach Tad Boyle's goal of making more free throws than the other team attempts.

While K-State shot the ball very well early, Colorado's defense tightened up and was able to force enough turnovers and contest enough shots to give them an edge.

Here are three takeaways from the 76-58 win in Manhattan, Kansas:

In the first game of the 2020-2021 season, Colorado did not take long to hit its stride.

In fact, the Buffaloes came out in what looked like mid-season form as they controlled both ends of the floor. Eight players played over 15 minutes in the game, with nine players notching an assist.

In short, the Buffs played great team basketball, beating South Dakota 84-61.

Here are a few main takeaways from the impressive opening victory:

BOULDER — At last, the day has come.

At 6 p.m., the Colorado Buffaloes will tip-off their 2020-2021 basketball season, taking on South Dakota in round one of the inaugural Little Apple Classic.

While taking on two inferior opponents on paper, the Buffs have a great chance to iron out early mistakes and build chemistry among this fairly young team. With games against South Dakota, Colorado should come away from this week undefeated while still learning a lot about this roster.

Here are three things to watch for this week:

BOULDER — Before the No. 24 Colorado Buffaloes took on the Northern Iowa Panthers at the CU Events Center Tuesday night, Buffs head coach Tad Boyle laid out the defensive gameplan.

The most important point Boyle tried to make was that Colorado had to take away Northern Iowa's 3-point attempts. The next most important point was to take away offensive rebounds.

Those were the keys to victory.

Then, in the first six-and-a-half minutes of the game, Panthers forward Austin Phyfe pulled in four offensive rebounds.

"That's hard to do," Boyle said after the game. "That might be an NCAA record."

BOULDER – The Colorado Buffaloes are very much a work in progress. Head coach Tad Boyle even quipped tonight, “this is why we normally have closed scrimmages… and we need a lot of time [before the season starts], man.” But hidden deep within a game where CU kept it close with division two Colorado School of Mines—before pulling it out late…...
