There may have been 27 seasons of Major League Baseball in Denver, but there hasn’t always been a lot to celebrate. There are nine winning seasons. A handful of  superstars. Five postseasons (thanks, Wild Card). Just one World Series appearance. And now, finally, a Hall of Famer… but that celebration will have to wait another year. So, when an award like National League Rookie of the Month is bestowed upon a player like Clint Barmes, it’s something worth celebrating. By winning the April honors, the 26-year-old shortstop became the first position player and second overall to take the prize with the Rockies in 2005. (RHP Jason Jennings in August of 2002 was the first.) In more recent seasons, Trevor Story (2016)…

In a fashion seemingly typical for only a player aligned with the Colorado Rockies, Carlos González finished third in the National League MVP voting (2010) before being selected to his first All-Star Game (2012). Against the Pittsburgh Pirates and their manager Clint Hurdle on this day in 2012, González gave the former Rockies’ skipper a taste of what could have been. While both Hurdle and González were registered as part of the 2009 squad that won the NL Wild Card, the eras for these two Colorado icons never overlapped in Denver: Hurdle was fired on May 29 and CarGo made his Rockies debut on June 5 of that season.  En route to his first Midsummer Classic eight years ago when…

DENVER – On Saturday night, the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) held it’s 22nd annual banquet and at the center of the festivities was a small reunion of the Colorado Rockies’ team that went to the 2007 World Series. Close to 200 packed the Super Suites at Coors Field to hear keynote speaker Clint...

The San Diego Chargers put up a couple of touchdowns and the Broncos could only muster a field goal…wait, this was baseball? Jorge De La Rosa’s 2015 debut went about as bad as anyone could have imagined. Maybe worse. The Rockies ace went just two innings, giving up nine runs on seven hits. Two of those were unearned. The line...

Is Dan O’Dowd’s theory backfiring on his young pitchers? Dan O’Dowd’s theory may be dismantling right in front of him. On Tuesday night at Coors Field, Christian Friedrich pitched well enough to keep his team in the game–until the 5th inning. In the fifth frame, the rookie lefty had everything set up in his favor. He was facing the bottom...

Clint Barmes torched the Rockies on Tuesday. Former Colorado Rockies infielder Clint Barmes spoiled another great start by Jamie Moyer. The new Pittsburgh Pirate, struggling at the plate in the early-going, promptly went 3-for-3 against the Rockies, including two doubles and the game-tying home run off of Matt Belisle in the bottom of the 8th inning. The Pirates went on...

When Clint Hurdle brought the Colorado Rockies first manager back on to his staff before the 2009 season, the move was celebrated. The club had gone back to it’s roots and hired someone who understood the culture of the Rockies. However, that move will continue to haunt the Rockies for years to come. It became increasingly clear as the 2010 season...

Winning 11 baseball games in a row is tough to do in little league, let alone the big leagues. On Monday night, in the biggest series of the season for the club, the Rockies dropped the opener of a three-game set to the Padres 6-4. It is tough to complain after a 10 game winning streak. However, the Rockies fell victim...

It almost sounds like a joke. This is the offense that all of the pundits said would win the Colorado Rockies their first ever National League West crown. This is the offense that needed to help this Colorado Rockies team win five-out-of-six on this road trip and after five games has scored a grand total of seven runs. It doesn’t take...

Face it. The Colorado Rockies are not good.Sure, they may be talented. This is undoubtedly the most talented team the franchise has ever put on the field. The problem? Execution. The Rockies lost 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday night, ensuring no fans will be chomping at the bit for playoff tickets.Huston Street blew yet another two-run save. It seems as...

The Rockies walked off with a win on Sunday. Their fans walked off sick to their stomachs. It was, without a doubt, the worst walk off victory in the history of the Colorado Rockies. If the Rockies would have ended up on the wrong end of the score on Sunday, there would be only one person to blame. No, not Huston Street....

The Colorado Rockies fired Don Baylor after the 1998 season. They never should have brought him back. The club’s Baylor managed were referred to as the “Blake Street Bombers.” They set all sorts of records for home runs. From 1993 to 1998 Colorado baseball fans were not real baseball fans, they had fallen in love with a game that was more...

For the second time this season, the Rockies made Tim Lincecum, the two-time defending Cy Young winner, look like just another pitcher. This time, 22-year old Jhoulys Chacin kept the Rockies in the game long enough to win 6-3.Chacin shook off a two-run first inning in which Aubrey Huff hit a long home run to right field. He held the...

The Colorado Rockies are starting to scare some teams. The Rockies offense powered them to a 7-3 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Coors Field on Thursday night. After going into hibernation after a playoff run in 2009, the grizzly bear that was supposed to be the Rockies offense has been closer to a kitten than a bear. There is good...

The Colorado Rockies have proven two facts over the past two nights. First, that baseball is not a game for those who like to go to bed early, and second, that the Rockies have as much depth as advertised. On Friday night in Anaheim, the Rockies beat the Angels 4-3 thanks in large part to Jonathan Herrera. The second baseman finished...
