A very special AD FREE(!) edition of the DNVR Rockies Podcast runs through the news of the day for the Colorado Rockies while breaking down the latest free agent signings. How big of a deal is the Wander Franco contract? And how could the Steven Matz signing with the St. Louis Cardinals be a harbinger of things to come for…

Colorado has one of the worst farm systems in all of baseball right now. It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last. The 2015 MLB Draft produced Brendan Rodgers, Peter Lambert and Sam Hilliard, all of whom have expired the rookie qualifications. In 2016, only Garrett Hampson has contributed in the majors as players like Colton Welker, Ben Bowden and Riley Pint continue to develop. Worst yet, the Rockies forfeited the 11th overall pick in 2017 to sign Ian Desmond and came away with only three appearances by Tommy Doyle to show for their draft class so far. The futures of Ryan Vilade, Lucas Gilbreath and Bret Boswell may weigh heavy on how this plays out in…

Any time the score is 10-3 in pitcher’s park before your team can record it’s fourth out, it’s more than likely your club will be saddled with a loss. Tuesday’s 14-5 win gives the San Diego Padres two consecutive to start the series and four-straight against Colorado overall, not to mention making the National League’s second-best team appear poised for a deep run in this year’s postseason. For the Rockies, the silver linings range from positive to overly optimistic. Nolan Arenado staked Colorado to an early 3-0 lead with his first inning home run, his first on the road in 2020. Trevor Story swiped his 13th base of the season to take sole position of first in stolen bases across…

It may be the eighth game of Spring Training already, but some Rockies pitchers are just starting to shake off the winter rust and get into Cactus League games. German Márquez, Wade Davis, Jake McGee and Scott Oberg made their 2020 premier on Sunday at Salt River Fields in a 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Márquez was fantastic over three innings, becoming only the second Colorado pitcher to last as long following Antonio Senzatela’s Friday start and the first to do it in scoreless fashion. After getting the vote of confidence from manager Bud Black as the team’s closer, Wade Davis tossed a one-two-three frame, striking out one – Angels’ top prospect Jo Adell – in the process.…

Add one more name to the list of pitchers looking to crack the Rockies starting rotation in 2020. “After talking amongst ourselves organizationally and with Wes, I think this is the way to go now to try and stretch him out as a starter,” manager Bud Black shared. “He’s motivated to start. Wants to start. His desire is to start.” Wes Parsons, claimed on waivers by Colorado on August 19, may have tossed 19.1 innings in purple last season out of the bullpen, but a majority of his career prior had existed as a pitcher that started the game rather than one more suited to finish it. The undrafted right-handed hurler originally signed with Atlanta out of a Tennessee junior…
