Report: Colorado fires OL coach Mitch Rodrigue

BOULDER — The Buffs have made a change.

The Colorado Buffaloes fired offensive line coach Mitch Rodrigue on Sunday, as first reported by Latitude’s Vic Lombardi. DNVR sources have confirmed the report. Rodrigue, 56, was halfway through his second season in the position, after signing onto head coach Karl Dorrell’s inaugural staff at Colorado.

Colorado’s offense has struggled through seven games this season. It’s last place in the country in yards per game and only five teams have produced fewer points per game.

In a 26-3 loss to Cal on Saturday, the Buffaloes produced 104 yards of total offense and averaged just over one yard per carry. Cal had produced eight sacks in six games, but it managed six sacks against Colorado.

Rodrigue’s removal is the first major change to Colorado’s program this season, despite the lack of success.

Prior to coaching at Colorado, Rodrigue spent 19 years coaching FBS football at three different schools; South Alabama, Louisiana-Lafayette and Southern Mississippi. The 2020 Alamo Bowl was the 15th bowl game Rodrigue had coached in. He’d most recently served as the co-offensive coordinator at a high school in Alabama.
