New faces and new uniforms highlight season, but same disappointing results: The Best of DNVR Rockies in 2022

The Year 2022 was a return to normalcy around the world following the pandemic shutdowns that wrought havoc on anything outside the comforts of our home. Fans were finally allowed back into ballparks at full capacity. 

In Denver, that meant over 2.5 million tickets sold at Coors Field to see the 68-94 Colorado Rockies. That was good for 10th-best in overall attendance and ninth-best for average date (32,468).

Did the new Nike City Connect uniforms, unveiled on June 4 and worn on every Sunday home game have anything to do with it? Certainly not, but one could speculate on how much of a spectacle those green pants truly were to see in person.  

There was that 16-11 start through May 7, powered by C.J. Cron’s National League-leading nine home runs. That gave some credence to the lofty investments made in the roster by the front office. From that point on however, Colorado closed out their season at 52-83 (.385), a mark tied for the second-worst in franchise history. 

Throughout it all, Colorado was still able to provide some necessary distractions from one of the more lackluster campaigns in their 30 seasons of existence.
