BOULDER — The Buffs lost another starting defensive back.
Junior safety Mark Perry announced Tuesday that he plans to enter the transfer portal. Perry started the past two seasons for Colorado. He’ll have two years of eligibility for his next team.

Perry played all of the safety spots for Colorado, including the STAR, during his three seasons in the rotation. He primarily played free safety in 2021, where he was able to put his speed to use. (Perry also ran track for a season at CU, as part of the 4x100m relay team.) Perry made 66 tackles in 2021 and picked off three passes, all in the season’s final four weeks.
Perry is the 10th Colorado player to enter the portal since November, joining Christian Gonzalez, Alec Pell, Jayden Simon, Chris Carpenter, Trustin Oliver, Zephaniah Maea, Keith Miller, La’Vontae Shenault and Ashaad Clayton. Six of those players have already found new homes; Clayton with Tulane, Miller with Texas A&M-Commerce, Oliver with Central Arkansas, Carpenter with UTSA and Simon with Tulsa.
While 10 transfers sounds like a big number, the Buffs had mostly avoided significant losses prior to losing two starting defensive backs in recent days. Outside of those two, Jayden Simon had the biggest impact this season with four tackles as a defensive lineman.

So far, Colorado has only pulled one player out of the portal, quarterback Maddox Kopp, who previously played for Houston.
