DENVER, Colo. — The Broncos ended their preseason with a bang.

After a couple of days of joint practices, the Broncos hosted the Los Angeles Rams at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium Saturday night and beat them 41-0.

Here’s what you need to know…

Stidham shines

Jarrett Stidham’s offense was unstoppable. He led scoring drives on all six of his possessions, and four of the six went for touchdowns.

He completed 17 of his 28 pass attempts, for 236 yards and a touchdown. Only one quarterback (Dallas’ Will Grier) had more passing yards this week. Stidham only played the first half, so that’s a 472-yard pace for the game. He also had a 20-yard run.

“I think the main thing is just improving week to week,” Stidham said after the game. “That was my personal goal, to keep improving and run the offense the way it is supposed to be ran and move the ball. I feel like each week it got better for us as an offense.”

Albert O earns a roster spot

The Broncos might not keep Albert Okwuegbunam past Tuesday’s cutdown deadline, but after his performance on Saturday, he’s going to have a roster spot somewhere.

Okwuegbunam caught seven passes for 109 yards. One was a touchdown. Another was a one-handed grab on a fourth down. Only one player had more receiving yards in the NFL this week.

“This is nothing new,” Okwuegbunam said after the game. “I mean I’ve always been capable of doing this. Tonight, I just got some opportunities to show it.”

Okwuegbunam came on strong over the past two weeks, both as a blocker and as a pass-catcher. He should be a favorite to make the team, but he could also be a trade candidate.

Receivers step up

Tim Patrick is done for the year. Jerry Jeudy is out for at least a few weeks. KJ Hamler isn’t on the roster. The Broncos need some help at receiver.

On Saturday, three receivers stepped up.

Rookie second-round pick Marvin Mims Jr. hauled in a 50-yard bomb through pass interference.

Brandon Johnson brought in a 49-yard, contested deep ball.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey caught four passes that totaled 57 yards.

A few big performances in a preseason game doesn’t mean that the Broncos’ problems are solved, but the young guys did all you can ask of them on Saturday.

The defense locks up the Rams

A shutout doesn’t come easy and the Broncos had plenty of contributors.

Thomas Incoom and Aaron Patrick had sacks.

Drew Sanders and Essang Bassey had interceptions.

Sanders, Bassey, Marcus Haynes, Jordan Jackson, Matt Henningsen, Tremon Smith and Delonte hood broke up passes.

And Rams kicker Tanner Brown missed his only field goal attempt, which was the only time the Rams came close to points.
