BOULDER – The decision has been made.

Colorado head coach Karl Dorrell told reporters Friday that senior Sam Noyer would start for the Buffs this season. He announced his decision to the team just a few minutes prior.

Noyer was in competition with junior Tyler Lytle for the job. Dorrell said it was a very close competition but Noyer won out because he was “operationally just a little bit better.” Dorrell still wants to give Lytle a chance to see the field on gamedays, but he won’t be rotating with Noyer.

True freshman Brendon Lewis typically practiced with the third-team offense while Noyer and Lytle split first team reps. On Friday, Dorrell praised the freshman’s talent and potential.

“We’ll continue to bring him along but not in the fashion that we will with Tyler and Sam,” Dorrell said.

Noyer, who played safety last year and entered the transfer portal this offseason, has completed 21 0f 4a passing attempts in his career for 179 yards.

The Buffs open their 2020 campaign with a home contest against UCLA on Sat., Nov. 7.
