BOULDER — The Buffs are going dancing.
Colorado’s women’s basketball team learned Sunday during the annual Selection Show that it had earned a place in the 68-team field. The Buffs earned a No. 7 seed and will take on the 10th-seeded Creighton Bluejays on Friday. The game will tip off at 11:30 am on ESPNEWS. Colorado’s last tournament appearance came in 2013. The 2022 tournament is the first in which women are included in “March Madness” branding.
“We honestly were just excited to be in the field,” head coach JR Payne said in a press release “We didn’t really necessarily know or care what seed we were or who we were going to play. We were just excited to be part of it. I think [the seeding] speaks to the way we’re playing right now, winning eight of 10 games and the only two losses coming against the No. 2 team in the country. We’re playing really good basketball and it’s great for our team to be recognized in that way.”
Colorado is 22-8 this season. The Buffs opened on a 13-0 tear which made them the last undefeated team in the country regardless of gender. They peaked as the No. 22 team in the country.
