BOULDER — The herd is growing!
Colorado added offensive lineman Tommy Brown from the transfer portal on Tuesday. Brown was the No. 4 guard in the 2018 recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. He signed with Alabama, where he started 1 game and played 229 snaps over four seasons. He has two years of eligibility remaining. Brown is Colorado’s third addition from the portal, joining quarterback Maddox Kopp and wide receiver RJ Sneed.

Brown primarily played guard while at Alabama, but at 6-foot-7 and 320 pounds he has the length to play tackle as well. After redshirting his freshman season in 2018, Brown aligned at right tackle for the Crimson Tide in 2019. He’s played guard in the two seasons since.
Brown played high school ball at national powerhouse Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, Calif. He climbed the recruiting ranks, eventually fitting in as the No. 4 guard and No. 132 prospect overall nationally.
Take a look for yourself:
Colorado lost two starters from its 2021 offensive line; center Colby Pursell and guard Kary Kutsch. The Buffs also lost guards Kanan Ray and Chance Lytle to the transfer portal. Those two started sporadically at Colorado.
New offensive line coach Kyle DeVan will hold a wide open competition during spring ball and fall camp to figure out which five players to put on the field. Brown figures to be a key piece of that competition.
