ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — There’s a new quarterback in town.

The Broncos announced a slew of roster moves early this week. Here are the key points:

• The Broncos signed rookie defensive lineman Elijah Garcia from the Rams’ practice squad.
  
• They waived Quinn Bailey and Anthony Harris from the 53-man roster.
  
• They released rookie outside linebacker Zach McCloud from their practice squad.
  
• They signed wide receiver Kaden Davis and quarterback Jarrett Guarantano to their practice squad.
  
• They currently have 52 players on their active roster and 15 on their practice squad, which leaves one open spot on each.
  

The Broncos signed defensive lineman Elijah Garcia off of the Rams’ practice squad on Wednesday. The undrafted rookie is yet to play in an NFL game. He spent the entire season to this point on the Rams’ practice squad.

Garcia, 24, played five seasons at Rice University. He recorded 6.5 sacks in his career, including four in his senior season, as he earned first-team All-Conference-USA honors.

The Broncos have 52 players on their active roster after signing Garcia on Wednesday, and waiving tackle Quinn Bailey, 27, and safety Anthony Harris, 31, on Tuesday.

One possible use of this final roster spot is bringing back a player from injured reserve. The top candidates are center Lloyd Cushenberry and outside linebacker Randy Gregory. Head coach Nathaniel Hackett was asked about a potential return on Monday.

“Both of those guys, we are going to evaluate,” Hackett said. “We’ll talk about that today and tomorrow to see where they are at. We will meet with our medical team.”

Neither player participated in Wednesday’s practice, which makes a return doubtful, but Gregory could make an immediate impact if available against the Chiefs. The big-money edge rusher had two sacks and two forced fumbles in four games before joining injuring his knee in early October.

As for Bailey and Harris, who were released, both should be expected to return to the Broncos’ practice squad, where they have spent the majority of the season. Denver only has one practice squad spot open but they will likely clear space if both Bailey and Harris clear waivers on Wednesday.

After losing starter Jimmy Garoppolo to a broken foot on Sunday, the San Francisco 49ers moved quickly to add Broncos practice squad quarterback Josh Johnson, 36, to their active roster on Tuesday. Johnson competed for the backup job with Brett Rypien in Denver this offseason but ultimately lost the battle, which left him as the Broncos’ third quarterback.

With Johnson out of the picture, the Broncos added Jarrett Guarantano, 25, to their practice squad on Wednesday.

The undrafted rookie is yet to take a snap in the NFL, but he posted 232 passing yards on 17-of-30 attempts with three touchdowns and no interceptions with the Cardinals in the preseason. Guarantano spent the first month of the season on Arizona’s practice squad but has been a street free agent since the beginning of October.

Guarantano started 38 games at Tennessee. He completed 61 percent of his passes for 6,174 yards, 38 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He transferred to Washington State for his senior year and started two games but lost the job to Jayden de Laura, who earned All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention and Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors
