A Denver Broncos quarterback was arrested last night, following Von Miller’s Halloween party at Gothic Theatre.
Police arrested Chad Kelly for trespassing early Tuesday morning, according to a press release and affidavit from the Englewood Police Department. Kelly appeared in court Tuesday morning on first-degree trespassing charges. He is now subject to discipline from the NFL and his job in Denver may be in jeopardy.
According to the press release and an affidavit by the Englewood Police Department, the homeowner called the police at 1:16 a.m. when he noticed a man standing outside his residence. While police were en route, the man entered the residence and sat down on a couch just inside the front door, next to a woman and her young child. The man was mumbling incoherently.
The man who called the police hit the intruder in the back with a vacuum tube and chased him out of the house. The homeowner claims both doors were locked, but police found no signs of forced entry.
Police found Chad Kelly a few blocks away in front of Gothic Theatre—the venue of Von Miller’s Halloween party, Monday night—and arrested him. The press release says Kelly was in a Black SUV. Kelly matched the description given by the victims, which aligned with what police saw on security footage of the incident. Police brought the homeowner to the scene and confirmed Kelly was the intruder.
The Denver Broncos released the following statement:
“We are disappointed that Chad Kelly was arrested early this morning. Our organization has been in contact with Chad, and we are in the process of gathering more information.”
Kelly beat out former-first round pick Paxton Lynch for the Broncos’ backup quarterback job during training camp. He took the first regular-season snap of his career against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 6. He subbed in for Case Keenum amid “Kelly” chants to kneel out the time remaining in the first half.
The Broncos drafted Kelly with the last pick of the 2017 draft, but he missed his entire rookie season due to injury. He played collegiately at Clemson before transferring to junior college following a fallout with head coach Dabo Swinney. After winning the Junior College National Championship, he transferred to Ole Miss. Prior to arriving on campus, Kelly was arrested for allegedly telling a bouncer, “I’m going to go to my car and get my AK-47 and spray this place.”
Kelly is the nephew of Hall of Fame Bills quarterback Jim Kelly. Chad Kelly grew up near Buffalo and was a four-time national Punt, Pass and Kick champion and a four-star recruit as a dual-threat quarterback out of high school.

Chad Kelly has been waived by the Broncos. Kevin Hogan is expected to be the Broncos’ backup quarterback in their Week 8 matchup with the Chiefs.

I know that it is not the best situation, but there is definitely worse characters in the league. I guess the question comes down to, “Does the talent allow for the behavior to keep him as the backup.”

If people can forgive a dog killer I think we can forgive Kelly for attempting to recreate the Hangover movies.

The league also forgives guys who hit women which is B.S.

With no alcohol in his system, the questions arise of what exactly was. Could this be a bad mix of prescription drugs? Synthetic weed? Bath salts? I’d like to give Chad the benefit of the doubt until we know more details, but so far this doesn’t sound good for him.
Consequently, if this incident throws the Swag Train off the track, what other QB options are out there for the Broncos next season? The draft looks extremely thin at QB, and the free agent options certainly don’t provide much to get excited about. The Broncos may be stuck in QB purgatory until the 2020 draft!
The sad state of the NFL…we make excuses for poor behaviour, based on talent. Or, in this case, precieved talent.

This move by Kelly takes all the pressure off Keenum. Watch his game implode. Who’s going to push him, Hogan? Minnesota knew how to get the most out of Keenum and that appears to be keeping him on edge and always implying he could lose the starting spot. Now there’s nobody he has to contend with.
