The Denver Broncos placed Billy Winn, who was injured Thursday night, on injured reserve and signed defensive end Nelson Adams in his place, Saturday morning.

Adams, who wasn’t selected during the 2017 NFL Draft, is a 6-foot-3, 287-pound run-stopper out of Mississippi State. The Brandon, Mississippi native played in 43 games for the Bulldogs during his four-year college career, and started 16 of them. He primarily played defensive end at Mississippi State, but occasionally found himself at tackle as well.

The rookie offers very little against the pass, other than an above-average ability to knock down passes. Against the run, he can fill holes and hold the point of attack, but hasn’t been able to produce consistently.

Adams was signed by the Steelers as a college free agent on April 29th and given a $5,000 signing bonus. On Aug. 8, he was released and replaced by cornerback JaCorey Shepherd.

Adams will wear number 62 for the Broncos.
