The Broncos running back stable just took a hit.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, second-year back Devontae Booker will miss six to eight weeks with a wrist injury. Booker is expected to need surgery to repair his wrist and will be placed on the PUP list, per 9News’ Mike Klis.
The reported timetable likely rules out an appearance in the season-opener against the Chargers, but Booker could be available for the Broncos Week 3 matchup at Buffalo.
The 2016 fourth-round pick out of Utah totaled 612 yards on 174 attempts last season with four touchdowns. Booker was also Denver’s third-leading receiver with 31 catches for 265 yards and a touchdown.
Booker was expected to enter camp as the primary backup to C.J. Anderson, but as recently as Wednesday, head coach Vance Joseph said the two would split first-team reps in camp. Free agent signee Jamaal Charles and De’Angelo Henderson will also compete for playing time.
