Philly Brown had a chance to make an impact for the Broncos at receiver this year, but it looks like a freak accident in the weight room will end his time in Denver.
The Broncos released Brown and defensive lineman Paul Boyette to clear space for wide receiver DeAndrew White and defensive lineman DeQuinton Osborne, the team announced Wednesday morning.
White is a 26-year-old receiver out of Alabama. He entered the 2015 draft but wasn’t chosen and later signed with the 49ers. He was released prior to his second season in San Francisco and signed to the Patriots’ practice squad. He spent last year on the Texans’ injured reserve list and practice squad but was waived by Houston on Monday.
Osborne is an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State. He participated in the Cowboys’ mini-camp but didn’t stick. Last year he posted 11.5 tackles for loss and was named first-team All-Big 12 by the coaches and Oklahoma State’s MVP.
Brown suffered a concussion after hitting his head on a bar in the weight room early in camp and only returned to practice late last week. His most notable NFL experience came in 2015 when he was a contributor to the Panthers’ Super Bowl run.
Boyette was an undrafted free agent out of Texas last summer and signed with the Raiders, spending some time on their 53-man roster.
