ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos re-signed defensive end Billy Winn Wednesday afternoon, as first reported by The Denver Post’s Nicki Jhabvala. Winn played in all 16 of the the team’s games last season, recording eight solo tackles and also recovering a fumble against Tampa Bay.
As a rookie, Winn started 10 games for the Browns after being selected in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-4 lineman spent three seasons in Cleveland before being traded to the Colts for a conditional seventh-round pick, in 2015. Winn has only started 13 games since his rookie season.
Winn joins an increasingly deep defensive end group in Denver. The Broncos signed Zach Kerr in March and drafted DeMarcus Walker in the second round of last weekend’s draft. This trio is met by returning starters Derek Wolfe and Jared Crick, and 2016 second-round pick Adam Gotsis.
In a corresponding move, Denver released 24-year-old defensive end Bobby Richardson, whom the team signed in February. Richardson began his career in New Orleans, when he was signed by the Saints as an undrafted free agent in 2015. He started 11 games in his first season, before bouncing around practice squads in 2016.
