The Broncos have announced a series moves as the team prepares to take on the Los Angeles Chargers without Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie.
Practice squad receiver Hunter Sharp, who joined Denver in December as a college free agent, signed to the team’s active roster Wednesday morning. Sharp played two years at a junior college before transferring to Utah State for his final two years of school. He graduated in 2016 but was not an NFL roster during the 2016 season.
Sharp, the cousin of All-Pro Chiefs linebacker Derrick Johnson, earned honorable mention All-Mountain West recognition after his junior year. The sub-200-pound burner recorded four touchdowns of at least 70 yards that season. He began his senior year with a two-game suspension but still earned second-team All-conference honors.
River Cracraft will take Sharp’s spot on the practice squad after working out at Dove Valley, Tuesday. Cracraft was also an undrafted free agent who played four seasons at Washington State. Cracraft tore his ACL late last season against Cal and missed the Cougars’ final three games. He informed NFL teams he had completed his rehab about a month ago.
The 6-foot, 198-pound receiver was a consistent playmaker at Washington State, posting at least 600 receiving yards in each of his four seasons there. In addition, Cracraft scored 20 touchdowns and is Washington State’s second all-time leader in receptions with 218.
To clear roster space for Sharp, the Broncos moved offensive lineman Billy Turner to injured reserve as a result of the broken hand he suffered in Sunday’s loss to the Giants. They also released defensive lineman Ahtyba Rubin, following a month-long stint in Denver.
More moves could still be on the horizon as Denver currently has only four healthy receivers on their active roster.
