John Elway took a swing on a sleeper with his last pick in the draft.

The Broncos drafted Arkansas running back David Williams with the 226th pick. He was the last player chosen by the Broncos in the 2018 NFL Draft.

Williams was a four-star recruit out of high school, but underperformed in college and wasn’t rated highly on most draft boards. He played three seasons at South Carolina before moving to Arkansas for his redshirt senior year as a graduate transfer.

He’s a big back at 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, and projects as a bruising, one-cut runner in the NFL, if he can carve out some playing time.

Williams’ best season came his senior year, when he carried the ball 117 times for 656 yards and eight touchdowns. He only had 347 total carries in college, about a third of the Broncos’ third-round pick, Oregon’s Royce Freeman.

The Broncos now have four players in their running back room: 2016 fourth-round pick Devontae Booker, 2017 sixth-round pick De’Angelo Henderson, Freeman and Williams.
