Broncos bolster defensive line

John Elway added some depth to the Broncos’ defensive line on Wednesday.

The Broncos signed defensive tackle Clinton McDonald to a two-year deal, the team announced on Wednesday afternoon. McDonald, 31, played the last four seasons in Tampa Bay as a part-time starter.

The Buccaneers rotated three players through the two defensive tackle spots in their 4-3 formation, with McDonald getting many of the pass rushing snaps and posting the third five-sack season of his career. McDonald will play in a 3-4 alignment for the first time if his career with the Broncos. At 6-foot-2 and 297 pounds, McDonald may profile better as a defensive end in Denver.

The Broncos will return their entire defensive line room in 2018, except for free agents Jared Crick and Billy Winn.

McDonald was drafted by the Bengals in the seventh round of the 2010 draft. He played one season in Cinicinatti before joining the Seahawks for four seasons and winning Super Bowl 48 over the Broncos. He signed a four-contract worth $12 million with the Buccaneers after winning the Super Bowl.
