Really awesome piece. Another observation is that Girard is a shorter defenseman and one thing that’s almost always been true about shorter defensemen is that they use longer sticks. Be that JML, Ellis, Spurgeon etc… they typically use a longer stick for poke checks and to lengthen their defensive reach outside of being basically big. G uses a short stick and by my eye it appears he uses a really high lie (like a 7+). This lets him puck handle at his feet, and he does a ton of one handed stick handles and the shorter twig lets him cup the puck both forehand and backhand on the blade. He’s a really unique defender.

When Altitude Authentics still carried game used equipment at one point they had 2 of his sticks and I bought both of them (for other people so I don’t have them anymore). You can’t imagine how short those things were. He also has one of the most complicated tape jobs I’ve ever seen – the anti-Pastrnak. He does the spin-the-tape thing to create a bead and then candy canes it the length of the stick. Unfortunately I didn’t notice the blade lie.

I miss the game used corner of the store. I used to geek out about blade and flex choices every time I went in.

Thanks, Evan! I love this. I need all the ammo I can get when I’m the only one in the entire arena with a Girard jersey on!
