Nice responses, I agree with your analysis.

Love it! I am higher on Makar’s point projection though. I think he falls in the 60-65 point range. He may hit a rookie wall, but even if he does, the dude is still gonna be running a PP with Mackinnon, Rantanen, Kadri and Burakovsky/Landeskog. I don’t think he can keep up the pace, but I sure do believe he can rack up 43 more points in 62 remaining games, especially when you consider that a lot of those points will really be freebie assists from great scorers.

Wow–the analysis of Kadri and Girard opened my eyes. I saw the results but did not put the entire puzzle together. Thanks.

Insightful perspectives, Evan. Totally agree about too much space sometimes between Girard and forwards. I’ve noticed that too in general, but especially with Sam. Also agree about the importance of Kadri’s contributions taking the team to another level by giving them strong second line leadership and production.

I don’t have twitter but if I did I would asked “what;s up with Gabe”? I saw a picture of him holding his new baby and he was standing w/o a cast, so I don’t believe there was any surgery or a lower body injury severe enough to immobilize. Is he ill? Is it a maternity leave?

I thought I saw one of those pictures of him holding the baby with a boot on one foot.

Just saw on Mile High that he was seen wearing a boot which the writer indicated that it was probably a broken foot

Hey Evan, great stuff as always. Didn’t see the Twitter thread in time but I would be interested to hear your take on this question. Am I crazy, or does setting up Logan O’Connor to play a Matt Calvert type role in the next year or two make a lot of sense? Similar size, similar speed and skating. Do you see that happening or Calvert trying to mentor O’Connor at all?

I can see it. I think that might have been the hope when the Avs signed O’Connor out of college to see if he can develop into that. There’s still time but he could be a cheap bottom 6 replacement next year.

For those of us still learning hockey: how do coaches decide which player is a left (or right) side defender? Or a left (or right) winger? And are the sides that different that it’s hard for players to switch?
