I think these are fair. It’s amazing how they’ve shut MacK down. Didn’t see that coming.

Regarding Vegas’s second goal, yeah bad pass by Landy, he should have gone to the net but Graves has no business joining that rush. He should be staying back and protecting the d zone with the Avs holding a 2-1 lead, especially since Vegas just scored their first a few minutes earlier. Graves is playing out of his role, he is not Bobby Orr. He is not an offensive Dman. Teams win cups when their players play within their role and don’t force plays that inevitably lead to mistakes that cost them games. I pin this loss on Graves, yeah it is a team game and there are other guys who could of made plays, but Graves hurt the team last night.

You’ve made this same point about Graves several times. I agree that he was an issue, but if MacK or Mikko play like anything more than a ghost of themselves for any appreciable stretch of the game, or Makar does something, you don’t even care about Graves. That’s a much bigger hurt for the team when your superstar player has 1 point in 4 games and his entire line has no-showed since game 1.

You have to remember that Bednar WANTS the defense leading/joining the rush. He wants the blueline to be a catalyst for the offense. Graves didn’t just decide to go walkabout and channel Orr; he’s doing what he’s been coached to do all season as part of the team-wide system. You want to fault him for his execution of that system, fine. But don’t bag on him for TRYING to execute what’s asked of him and every other defenseman on the team.

I agree with you that if the top guys didn’t ghost it would not be an issue. Ok, so if Bednar is coaching them to join the rush that is fine, but I still think Graves should have more game situational awareness and be more careful as to when he joins the rush or shooting pucks from the point. Trying to slam it thru two guys in OT is not smart and the game was over. So I still think Graves could have been smarter. I do realize that I have major frustration and disappointment that they lost a game they should have won and Graves has an easy target on his back for the loss. I am sure I am not the only one.

If you can’t win this game after what happened in Vegas and being spotted 2 goals – I’d say it’s a wrap. Just sad..
