I thought a lot of the depth players looked good. But I really want to comment about your observation that teams are focusing on Makar. I haven’t played enough hockey to pick that up, so your expertise is appreciated. Sometimes I wish more details would be explained by players and commentators because most people haven’t played ANY hockey.

Just a thought from your comment about Rantanen as a C. Do you think there is a possibility that he slides into the 2C role next year to offset the loss of Kadri (assuming we can’t pay him the big dollars) ? I think that he has shown he can drive play on his own line and could help the transition of Newhook to 2C by having the ability to swap back to wing if Newhook is up to snuff. Love the top line but we are going to have to be creative next year

Evan, it seemed that Sikura lost his man on the first goal and just kinda drifted back to the D zone. Did you see that?

Am I the only one who thinks it’s weird that Burakovsky is constantly talked about as “in a slump” or “underperforming”? He’s on pace to obliterate his career best point and goal totals, 6G/9P shy of matching his career highs with almost half a season to play. I know his effort is lacking some nights but it’s not like he isn’t still producing plenty in his role

You’re not the only one. They tend to grade Burakovsky low and Jost high, for reasons of likely bias.

The writers here are Avs’ fans, much more than impartial journalists. Grades should be looked at with a grain of salt.

Jost an 7CF-8CA. Rants 24-8, Naz 26-21, Cale 36-13. Burki at 24-19. Obviously a game the top six played the Lightning well, and they grade lower than Jost, which is typical for DNVR Avalanche.

Some of it is perception, sure, but when you consider that Burakovsky’s shot is his greatest asset, the last goal he scored was January 14 and he picks up some of the quietest secondary assists (read: right place right time) you’ll see a guy get and when he’s struggling he’s a total black hole. His pace is still great compared to his career but two goals in 19 games (since 2022 began) is fair to call a slump, no?
