Hi. There’s this cool website called Natural Stat Trick that lets you look at advanced stats like CorsiFor. They will tell you, for example, Jost had three positive Corsi events, which is tied for third on the team. Doesn’t really seem like a D kind of night. Also, Zadorov is who he is. Colorado needs physical players, and they’re going to get penalties. It’s ok — it’s part of a game called hockey.

Also, Bednar sat Burakovsky late in the game, so…. maybe he really wasn’t the best on that line?

Hi!

Clearly you used NST to pull these numbers but you dressed it up in a pretty interesting way. Because with Jost on the ice at 5v5, the Avs were:
30% CF
37% Shots on goal
20% xGF
33% SCF
25% HDCF

He was negative relative to his teammates in every single one of those categories, despite him being one of 9 Avs players to have 3 individual Corsi events. I think a D is pretty fair all of that considered.

But I love that you’re using NST! It’s a great resource to dig into these things

Nice write up Evan.
I’m curious: from the way you describe it Burky did above average and was the best on his line etc., but you give him a C.
I just want to understand your thinking.
Thanks!

I have always liked what Z brings to the avs as far as his physical presence. He will sometimes take penalties because of it and that is ok. The penalty last night was unacceptable, retaliation slash behind the play. It most probably did cost the avs the game.
Once Z eliminates the stupid brain lock turn overs, icings and penalties he will really become a force. Is he seeing and thinking the game well? what do you guys think? He needs to play the game smarter and keep that edge.
