ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Not enough is being made about the leap Denver Broncos‘ quarterback Bo Nix can make in his third year in the NFL, according to one of his fellow captains.
“Everyone wants to talk about like a sophomore year [jump], he’s like in his junior year. You know what I mean,” Alex Singleton stated following practice on Monday, talking about his quarterback. “It feels like he’s been here for a decade. It feels like he’s been here the whole five years I’ve been here. But he hasn’t. The way he’s just developed, he just takes an extra step or two every offseason. And he’s done that again this year.”
One of the steps Nix has taken is he’s added another playmaking ability to his bag.
“He likes to no-look [throw] a lot now. That’s his new go to,” Singleton said, with a smile revealing what the third-year quarterback has been doing at practices throughout training camp.
The no-look pass isn’t brand new for the Broncos’ starting quarterback. Last year, Nix looked off Las Vegas Raiders‘ linebacker Devin White to hit Courtland Sutton in the Broncos’ 24-17 win in Week 14.
It appears Nix has significantly increased his usage of it this year.
“Bo’s is a baller,” Jaylen Waddle added on Monday. “He has rare traits that only he can process and only he can do. It’s just tremendous going out there. He’s so young, but he’s kind of so mature in the way he approaches the game. So yes, Bo’s different.”
On Friday, Nix impressed in his preseason debut. No. 10 went 6-of-9 for 76 yards, one touchdown and a 129.9 passer rating.
“Good. I thought he did a good job,” Sean Payton said on Monday, evaluating Nix’s performance. “Yes, his movement skills were good. A little fast through one progression, but overall, he did a good job operating the huddle. He’s moving around well. [He] had a couple big throws and felt very, very comfortable.”
The operating with Nix and Davis Webb was “clean” and “smooth,” according to the head coach.
The Broncos have not decided if Nix and the starters will play in the preseason finale on Friday against the Minnesota Vikings. If not, the next time No. 10 will take the field will be on Monday Night Football against the Kansas City Chiefs.
