QB Scoreboard: Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham convert two-minute drills on the penultimate day of Denver Broncos Training Camp

ENGLEWOOD, Colo — Training camp is winding down… but the best is yet to come.

The Denver Broncos will finish their training camp on Friday with a joint practice with the Green Bay Packers, ahead of their preseason game on Sunday at Empower Field.

With a big day coming on Friday, the Broncos had a slower day on Thursday.

While the team dressed in full pads and played for more than two hours, much of the day was walkthroughs or lessons.

Here’s what went down…

Quarterback Scoreboard

The Broncos held three competitive periods for their quarterbacks. The first was a seven-on-seven period, the next was a full-team period and the final was a situational period.

Here’s the situation: The offense has the ball at the defense’s 47-yard line. The defense leads 35-30 with 1:14 left in the game. It’s first down and neither side has any timeouts.

Jarrett Stidham: A

Jarrett Stidham started his two-minute drill with a bang.

David Sills V came free up the sideline and Stidham hit him 30 yards downfield, just past Riley Moss‘s fingertips. In a game situation, Moss might have played Sills’ body instead of the ball, which may have forced an incompletion or led to a tackle after the catch. But Sills caught the ball and easily got into the end zone.

The Broncos extended the drill by placing the ball at the 11-yard line. Stidham spiked the ball on first down, then he threw it away on second down.

On 3rd & 10, Samaje Perine came free in the flat after a defender stumbled, but Stidham missed him.

On 4th & 10, Baron Browning jumped offside. On 4th & 5 from the six-yard line, Stidham hit Sills at the goal line, but he might have been sacked by Browning or John Franklin-Myers in a game situation.

Bo Nix: B+

Bo Nix‘s two-minute drill got off to a rough start.

Cody Barton could have picked off Nix’s first pass if he had seen it coming. I thought it bounced off the back of the linebacker’s helmet. It was a dangerous throw.

Jonah Elliss jumped offside on second down, which set up a 2nd & 5.

Nix rolled out off of play action and hit Jalen Virgil on a cross for 24 yards, past pressure from Nik Bonitto.

Nix had more than a minute left on the clock and a first down from the 17-yard line. He hit Michael Bandy on a quick out to move the chains.

On 1st & Goal from the seven-yard line, Nix hit Phillip Dorsett on a quick out.

On 2nd & Goal from the two-yard line, Nix hit Bandy on play-action in the middle of the field for a touchdown.

Zach Wilson: A-

Zach Wilson didn’t get a chance at the two-minute drill, so we only have a handful of throws to grade.

In seven-on-sevens, Wilson hit Troy Franklin on a crosser for about 15 yards. In team drills he hit Dorsett for a 20-yard gain on an out past Reese Taylor.

It was a good day, but there isn’t much else to say.

One-on-ones

While the offense held seven-on-seven drills, the linemen participated in one-on-ones.

Since the field was split, I only say about two-third (or maybe a little less) of what happened in the trenches.

Here’s what I saw…

• Quinn Meinerz beat Jordan Jackson. Then he beat John Franklin-Myers.
  
  
• Calvin Throckmorton beat Zach Allen. Allen won the next matchup.
  
  
• Garett Bolles stuffed Jonathon Cooper. Matt Peart beat Cooper, too. Peart also beat Matt Henningsen.
  
  
• Baron Browning tried to spin past Mike McGlinchey and McGlinchey pushed him to the ground. Browning’s spin is nasty, but McGlinchey has seen it every day for nearly a month.
  
  
• Jonah Elliss couldn’t get past Frank Crum, but he knocked him a couple of steps backward. Elliss got the edge on Crum on their next rep, but I didn’t think he would have had an angle to get to the quarterback.
  
  
• Alex Palczewski beat Angelo Blackson.
  
  
• Will Sherman beat Eyioma Uwazurike.
