With Jared Crick, Shane Ray and Zach Kerr sidelined to start the season, Denver’s front seven is facing dire circumstances. Monday’s roster move could make a huge impact against the Chargers.

The Broncos signed rookie nose tackle Tyrique Jarrett from their own practice squad. Jarrett participated in Denver’s training camp after signing with the team out of college this offseason.

Jarrett could see time against the Chargers Monday night as the Broncos’ only backup to starter Domata Peko. At 335 pounds, Jarrett showed during the preseason that he could draw two blockers despite his inexperience.

The 23-year-old played three seasons at Pittsburgh after starting his college career at Milford Academy. Jarrett was an elite prospect out of high school, partially due to his nearly unblockable frame. He was a starter for two seasons at Pittsburgh and was voted Honorable Mention All-ACC as a senior.

The Broncos waived second-year nose tackle Kyle Peko on Saturday to clear space for Jarrett on the roster.
