Broncos sign veteran corner in wake of injury to Chris Harris Jr.

The Broncos have made a move to patch their hole at cornerback.

Denver signed 29-year-old cornerback Jamar Taylor on Tuesday. The five-year veteran visited the team earlier in the week and signed a contract after passing a physical. The team waived offensive lineman Cyrus Kouandjio to clear space on the 53-man active roster.

Taylor figures to slide in near the top of the Broncos’ cornerback depth chart. Following Chris Harris Jr.’s broken fibula, which should sideline him for about a month, the Broncos’ only available veteran cornerbacks are Tramaine Brock and Bradley Roby. Rookie Issac Yidom has done a nice job, all things considered, but the Broncos have been hesitant to play second-year defensive back Brendan Langley.

Yiadom filled in for Harris on Sunday, playing every defensive snap following the injury. That number was already expected go down with the return of Tramaine Brock who is scheduled to get back from a rib injury this week, and Taylor could also take a chunk.

A second-round pick by the Dolphins out of Boise State in 2013, Taylor played three seasons in Miami, starting nine games. He was traded to the Browns in exchange for a move up in the seventh round. He was a two-year starter and one-year captain but was traded for a future sixth-round pick this spring. He appeared in every game for the Cardinals this season before he was cut in mid-November.

Kouandjio is a former second-round pick who has failed to find a permanent home in five NFL seasons. The 6-foot-7 behemoth was used in multiple six-offensive-linemen sets for the Broncos on Sunday.
