Broncos make several roster moves

The Broncos released wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie from their active roster on Monday and replaced him with safety Shamarko Thomas, according to 9News. The team also released wide receiver River Cracraft from its practice squad and replaced him with wide receiver Carlos Henderson, who is now done with his suspension.

Thomas joined the Broncos late in training camp and was released when the team cut down to 53 active players. If Thomas had been on the roster for Week 1, his contract would have been guaranteed. By releasing him and bringing him back, Denver can cut him at any point, and any remaining salary will be returned to their salary cap space and be rolled over next season.

McKenzie was the Broncos’ sixth-round draft pick in 2017 and started at punt returner for most of the season. He was explosive, but also fumbled six times and fumbled once more this preseason. He was released following the preseason, but returned to the 53-man roster when Su’a Cravens was placed on injured reserve.

Henderson has barely touched the practice field since he was drafted in the third round of the 2017 draft. He missed the majority of the 2017 offseason with an injury and didn’t report to training camp this year because of personal issues. He was arrested for marijuana possession this spring and was subsequently suspended for the first game of the season.

Cracraft was one of the breakout performers in training camp, but Denver’s depth at receiver left him on the outside looking in. The 23-year-old is a prototypical slot receiver who should find a spot on an NFL practice squad.
