Avs pick Stienberg, Beaucage in third round

The Colorado Avalanche selected Canadian center Matthew Stienberg with the 63rd overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. With the 79th pick the Avalanche chose right-handed Canadian winger Alex Beaucage.

Stienberg, 18, played the last two seasons at St. Andrew’s College Prep School in Ontario. At 6-foot-1 and 182 pounds, Stienberg scored 75 points in 56 games this season. Last year he put up 85 in 57 games. He is committed to Cornell this fall.

Beaucage, 17, played the last two seasons with the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies of the QMJHL. His production soared this season from .66 points per game to 1.16, as he posted 79 points in 68 contests.

The Avalanche have three picks left in the draft, with the next coming in the fifth round.
