Report: Pac-12 to begin football season in November

The wait is over!

The Pac-12 CEO group voted to play football this fall, according to The Mercury News’ Jon Wilner. Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel added that the season will begin the weekend of Nov. 7 with the possibility of a Friday night game on Nov. 6. Thamel also reported that no fans will be allowed to attend games.

The Pac-12 announced in August that it would suspend all competitions until Jan. 1, 2021, but recent developments—such as access to daily testing for student-athletes—apparently made a fall football season viable.

Some schools, such as Stanford and Cal, are still awaiting clearance from local governments to begin practicing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Boulder County implemented restrictions for all 18-22-year-olds that prohibit gatherings until at least Oct. 8. The Daily Camera’s Brian Howell reported that this rule applies to student-athletes as well, so Colorado will be unable to practice in Boulder.
