Ex-Buffs quarterback Sam Noyer transfers to Oregon State

BOULDER — The decision is in.

Former-Colorado quarterback Sam Noyer announced on Twitter that he is committed to Oregon State on Friday. Noyer entered the transfer portal earlier in the week. He is a native of Beaverton, Oregon and graduated from Beaverton High School.

The Beavers will travel to Boulder for a game against the Buffs on Nov. 6.

Oregon State’s starting quarterback from a year ago, Tristan Gebbia, will return for his redshirt-junior season in 2021. He led the Beavers to a 2-2 record last season—completing 62% of his passes for 824 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions—before being injured in the closing minutes of Oregon State’s upset win against Oregon. The injury kept him sidelined through spring camp.

Prior to Noyer’s commitment, the Beavers were in the midst of a four-way quarterback competition. Now, Noyer enters the fray with as good a shot to win as anybody. In fact, he might be the favorite.

Noyer was also sidelined during spring ball with an injury of his own. His torn labrum grew worse and worse throughout CU’s 2020 season, but he still managed to land second-team all-Pac-12 honors.

This was Noyer’s second time through the transfer portal. He briefly entered in 2020 but opted to return to Colorado after new head coach Karl Dorrell offered him a chance to compete for CU’s starting job. Noyer, of course, won that competition.

CU is left with second-year true freshman Brendon Lewis and sophomore Tennessee transfer J.T. Shrout competing for the starting quarterback position in 2021.
