The Colorado Avalanche have recalled A.J. Greer from the San Antonio Rampage. The addition of Greer signals the head injury to Matt Duchene, suffered Friday night against the Winnipeg Jets after a collision with Jets defenseman Jacob Trouba, will keep him from the lineup tomorrow against the Boston Bruins.
The 19-year old Greer was drafted 39th overall in the 2015 NHL Draft and has been enjoying a hot start to his professional career, scoring 14 points (4 goals, 10 assists) in just 13 games for the Rampage.
Greer’s meteoric rise from his freshman season at Boston University when he scored just seven points in 37 games and was pegged as a likely mid-round selection has been well-documented here at BSN Denver and when he had a strong preseason, Avalanche head coach Jared Bednar spoke glowingly of the feisty Greer.
Couple the injury bug, general ineffectiveness of the depth lines, and Greer’s extremely impressive start with the Rampage, and it became an obvious choice who the top call-up option should be.
Greer is the type of player Avalanche fans will immediately fall in love with as he plays the game with an edge and non-stop motor. His ability to score on offense and defensive tenacity makes him a very intriguing option for an Avalanche forward corps that doesn’t have a player similar to him in style.
Greer will make his NHL debut tomorrow evening against the Bruins.
