Why a couple of brand new Broncos "went crazy" last night

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — You ever just stare at your phone waiting for a text for the special someone?

Then you finally see that number pop up with next to that green “messages” icon and you simply cannot stop smiling. It makes your day.

For most, that text comes from a significant other or a crush, but most people don’t get texts from their idols. Thursday night a couple of brand new Broncos did.

“To be honest with you, last night I was at my hotel room, and I’m getting texts, T.J., Talib, everybody texting me,” Denver Broncos second-round pick DeMarcus Walker said on Saturday, building up to the climax. “Then Von texted me, and I was going crazy… I was literally about to go to sleep, and something told me to check my other phone, and it was him and I just—I went crazy, I jumped out of the bed.”

“He’s the one guy I looked up to,” Walker added. “Someone who just shows up in big games and just dominates. He doesn’t care what you do; he’s going to beat you, that’s the type of mentality that I adapted to myself.”

Interestingly enough, Walker wasn’t the only one who got a text from on of his heroes last night. Cornerback Brenden Langley said on Saturday morning that when he watched tape on NFL cornerbacks, he strictly watched four in particular: Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr., Bradley Roby and Patrick Peterson. So when the top guy on that list texted him, he had a similar reaction to his new teammate.

“Aw man, the first person that texted me was Aqib, and I was like, ‘Yoooooo! Aqib Talib just texted me!’ Langley told BSN Denver with an ear-to-ear smile. “And then they just all started coming in—T.J. Ward texted me, Von Miller texted me, and I was like, ‘Alright, this is a real, solid team.'”

For the raw prospect out of Lamar University, that text was his “oh my god” moment when it came to realizing he was now a player in the National Football League.

“I was just watching his film last week, and now we’re texting each other,” Langley said, stopping for a moment to wonder if it really had set in yet. “It was surreal.”

For one final night, DeMarcus Walker and Brenden Langley got to be fans, on Friday they started their lives as pros.
