Trent Matthews, another hopeful “Next Level Ram.”
As mentioned in our film study piece Matthews has received coverage from a few outlets. He’s ranked by CBSSports.com in their free safety rankings (15th at the position), though they don’t profile him with a scouting report as they have with some of the other “Next Level Rams.”
Matthews was also ranked in Pro Football Draft® Guide’s 2016 Draft preview in which he was the 20th ranked Safety (they don’t distinguish between strong and free safeties in their rankings).
Here is Pro Football Draft® Guide’s scouting report:
“A lanky centerfielder, Matthews has good instincts and ball skills. He lacks upside due to limitations as an athlete – he doesn’t have the speed to cover a lot of ground. He’s likely a back-up and special teamer.”
As he still isn’t 100 percent in his recovery from ACL surgery and wasn’t able to perform at the Rams Pro Day, Matthews has had no way to prove his athletic abilities. His size and production have certainly made national media types take notice, we’ll have to wait and see if the NFL feels the same way.
Here’s something positive: Matthews showed his health in this quick workout video he posted on Twitter yesterday:
