Weekend Gambling Primer: Can Vegas stop the bleeding?

Plenty of interesting games this weekend, and we’ve found some good value once again. Last week got off to a shaky start, but ended with a couple wins to finish at a cool .500 on straight bets (doesn’t include parlays or props).

I’ll have four straight up wagers for you every week, accompanied by one not completely ridiculous parlay, and a prop or two that I like. Cool? Cool.

Last week

2-4 overall*

*2-2 on straight up wagers

Columbus (+160) vs. Minnesota

I may be overthinking this but Minnesota is 16-5-2 against the east and 10-0-0 against the Metropolitan Division. When is the last time a team swept another division? I don’t know the answer, but it seems almost impossible. Both teams are on the second night of a back-to-back with Minnesota holding off Detroit in a shootout 6-5 (a game that included one of the more comical own-goals I’ve ever seen) and Columbus getting beat like a drum 6-0 on Long Island. Minnesota has a big game against Nashville Sunday as they sit a game apart in the playoff standings. I think they might be looking ahead so give me the home team at a solid +160 payout.

Pittsburgh -1.5 (+135) vs. Vegas

Vegas is coming off a very emotional loss in Buffalo, and is heading into Pittsburgh for the second half of a back-to-back (third stop of a five-game road trip), where the Penguins are rested and waiting. On top of that, the Knights are now without Robin Lehner and Reilly Smith (on top of their other injuries), so things aren’t getting any easier. Pittsburgh is a veteran team, who needs the points to keep pace in the gauntlet that is the Eastern Conference. Look for the Pens to jump all over the reeling Golden Knights.

Capitals/Canucks u6 (-115)

The Canucks have gone over 9 in a row and 13 of 14. The over for the Capitals in games versus Canadian teams is 10-2 with the 2 unders against the offensively challenged Ottawa Senators. Yet somehow o6 in this game is -105? That stinks to high hell, give me the under

Philadelphia 1P ML @ Carolina

Carolina just beat the Avalanche in what felt like a playoff game Thursday night. The Flyers were down 4-0 Thursday to Florida before they realized the game had started. This game will be nationally televised on ABC which I think matters to teams going nowhere like Philadelphia. I think they will jump out early before Carolina matches their intensity.

Why Not ML Parlay +484

PIT -180, CGY -385, CAR -295, BOS -385, MTL -130

Same as last week, you know the drill. Throw a bunch of heavy favorites together and hope they show up for a decent, almost 5-1, payout.

Prop(s) to Watch

We are going to keep these Avalanche focused as much as we can. I am not sure what the odds will be Sunday but let’s take MacKinnon to score the first goal, and Landeskog to score the last (empty net style).

Straight up wagers (this season):

2-2

Parlays and props (this season):

0-2
