Wade Phillips says Talib and Harris are the best cornerback tandem he's ever coached

Wade Phillips has 38 years of NFL coaching experience including 12 years as a head coach. His defenses have consistently ranked among the top in the NFL.

As a defensive minded coach, he has surely worked with many talented secondaries that have included players like Tyrone Braxton in Denver, Ray Buchanan in Atlanta, Quentin Jammer and Drayton Florence in San Diego, Terrance Newman and Anthony Henry in Dallas, and most recently Kareem Jackson and Jonathan Joseph in Houston. The combination of Aqib Talib and Chris Harris Jr. is the best duo he’s ever coached.

Phillips told us after practice on Tuesday “Oh they are probably the best. They rate with the pro bowler’s I have coached. Just don’t tell them I said that, they wont want to practice anymore.” Phillips also didn’t limit the great play at the cornerback position to Talib and Harris. “Bradley Roby too, he’s really coming along. Same with Tony Carter.”

The Broncos also drafted a pair of cornerbacks out of Tulane in Lorenzo Doss and Taureen Nixon, but the younger members of the secondary are struggling more. “Well they make some plays. But they also don’t make some plays.” Phillips went on to say that Doss made a play against Peyton Manning in practice, which can be a confidence booster any time you make a play against a Hall-of-fame Quarterback.
