Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Wade Phillips may seem old fashioned with his white hair and southern drawl but you have to look no further than his Twitter account (@sonofbum) to see he is plugged into the times. His weekly press has become a brief hilarious escape, mixed in with his vast knowledge of NFL football.
Thursday was no different. When asked to comment on the upcoming Super Bowl 50 ring ceremony Phillips seamlessly quoted popular hip-hop musician Drake.
“It’s a really big ring for really big things. We got a really big team, as Drake would say,” Phillips told with a grin.
Of course, that is a line from Drake’s hit “Big Rings” off of the 2015 Album “What a Time To Be Alive” that was often heard at the Broncos practice facility leading up to the Super Bowl and was blasted on repeat following their historic win.

Phillips’ part in the Broncos victory was his first Super Bowl win of his illustrious 39-year coaching career and thus explains his excitement. Before quoted Drake he was asked what he would do with the new piece of jewelry.
“Well, as soon as I get it I’m going to put it on. I may wear it all the time. We’ll see.”
Understandably , special teams coordinator Joe DeCamillis said, “it’s hard following that guy” in reference to Phillips as he took the podium then also detailed he is more of a T.I. fan.
There is undoubtedly never a dull moment when talking to Phillips and Thursday’s quick rap session with the coach merely added to his ever-evolving legend.
