One thing is for sure, BSN Denver’s An Nguyen isn’t doing this for his fantasy basketball team — he’s been cutting video on the Denver Nuggets all season and caught an interesting scoring error from last night’s bizarre game between the Bulls and Nuggets. You be the judge, but it appears Nikola Jokic should be awarded a basket and have his point total changed from 14 to 16 points. It all started with a scoreboard error in the fourth quarter.
Pool Reporter post game: Can you explain briefly what happened with the score confusion in the fourth quarter and how it got resolved?
Crew Chief Scott Foster: “There was an agreement that the score was wrong between both teams which alerted me to go and try to figure what was going on. Everyone agreed that the score at the end of the third was correct 89-73 Chicago. I had the score book and the play-by-play cross reference the statistical information and in doing so we found that the score for Denver was -2. They had 8 in the book but they had 10 in the play-by-play. They did that during play so we could keep the game moving. They fixed it and we moved on. The confusion came when Chicago lost two points, but the incident was solved by cross referencing the book and the play-by-play.”
The Bulls and Nuggets were both keeping score on their benches and both agreed that the Bulls needed to be rewarded two point that they were not credited for by the scorekeepers at Pepsi Center.
“There were a lot of issues with the score,” said Michael Malone post-game. “I felt like that sportsmanship commercial giving those guys two points because it was the right thing to do. We had the score and wanted to make sure if we’re going to win the game that it’s going to be fair and square.”
And if we’re going to make things fair and square then rookie Nikola Jokic needs to be awarded his 16 points and not the 14 points they have him down for on all the box scores.
If you go through the highlights provided by An Nguyen (CLICK HERE) you can see that Jokic actually made six shots, not five and with those six shots, plus the two free throws — that adds up to 16 points.
Where did the scorekeepers get Jokic’s stats wrong?
A bucket at the 8:10 mark was awarded to Will Barton.
But as you can see from the screen shot here, that was actually a Nikola Jokic but at the 8:16 mark, but NBA.com/stats gives credit to Will Barton for the make.
It should stand that Jokic finished the game 6-14 from the field for 16 points. And unfortunately for Barton, his stat line should come down to 7-16 from the field for 16 points.
Excellent catch from BSN Denver’s An Nguyen.
