Vance Joseph won't rule out Broncos pursuing a proven quarterback

INDIANAPOLIS — The most talked about man in Colorado currently lives in Texas.

His name is Tony Romo, and like Colin Kaepernick before him, he’s the star of the the Denver Broncos offseason. Every week and around every corner there’s another tidbit of information that comes out on the former Dallas Cowboys starting QB, most recently an Ian Rappaport report that Denver is “clearly in the driver’s seat” if Romo is willing to take a pay cut.

From a media standpoint, Romo is the gift that keeps on giving, and until the fourth-highest rated quarterback in the history of the NFL is ruled out as an option for Denver, he’ll be discussed constantly.

On Wednesday morning at the NFL Scouting  Combine, head coach Vance Joseph met with the media and had a chance to put rumors surrounding the 13-year veteran, and he did no such thing.

‘We’re set… at the moment,” the head coach said of the two quarterbacks currently on the roster. ” With free agency opening next week, any player that can help us moving forward and help our team get better we are going to obviously research and look into, but right now we have two young guys that we believe in.”

The new head coach in Denver wouldn’t go into specifics about who or what could change that feeling that the team is set, noting that “nobody is available that we can even talk about,” but he did admit that there are benefits to bringing in a proven winner.

“Having a veteran quarterback who has won games in the past, it brings excitement to your locker room and to your city,” the coach explained. “With that being said, we have two young guys that played last year that won nine games combined and probably should have won more. So, moving forward we are satisfied with those two kids and fixing the offensive line, running the football better, protecting the passer is a must, help those two guys play better.”

Joseph was full of endorsements of the players currently in Orange & Blue on the day, but maybe it was his reluctance to rule out other options at the position that spoke loudest. Due to implications on the salary cap, if Dallas were to eventually release Romo it wouldn’t take place until after the new league year begins on March 9. Until then, let the speculation roll.
